“The Crown” alum stars as the titular Lady Connie Chatterley, who embarks on an affair with gamekeeper Mellors (Jack O’Connell) while her ailing husband, Sir Clifford (Matthew Duckett), grows suspicious. Joely Richardson also stars as Sir Clifford Chatterley’s nurse. The film premieres in select theaters November 25 and will be streaming on Netflix December 2. Based on D. H. Lawrence’s novel of the same name, the film is helmed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (“The Mustang”) and adapted for the screen by David Magee (“Life of Pi”)....

“Mike” is presented largely as an exercise in self-examination, opening with Tyson as he prepares to step on stage and narrate the events of his own tumultuous life, from his rise to fame as a boxing prodigy straight out of juvenile detention, to his dramatic pivot to convicted rapist at the height of his career. This would be an intriguing framing device if it wasn’t borrowed from Tyson’s own one-man show “Undisputed Truth,” which premiered on Broadway in 2012 in a production directed by Spike Lee....

China has continued its rise of alternate endings due to censorship. Reuters first reported that Chinese national censors seem to find the original ending to “Minions: The Rise of Gru” as “Despicable” for rewarding gang-related mischief. In China, according to social media users first to notice the alternate ending, the animated Universal Pictures film has received a title card reading that Wild Knuckles, a main character in the heist film, was caught by the police and served 20 years in jail....

The official synopsis for “Montana Story” describes the film as “a neo-Western with an emotional tremor hiding beneath it. Two estranged siblings (Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague) return home to the sprawling ranch they once knew and loved, confronting a deep and bitter family legacy against a mythic American backdrop.” The trailer shows Richardson and Teague attempting to sell their family’s ranch in an attempt to cover their dying father’s medical bills, attempting to make ends meet while processing childhood trauma from their complicated relationships with both him and each other....

“True crime” and “expectations” always seem to make for a curious pairing. For every voracious listener/reader/watcher that wants whatever’s in front of them to follow a familiar rhythm and trajectory, there’s a reporter/screenwriter/filmmaker looking to subvert those expectations from the inside out. So it’s no surprise that the opening minutes of “Only Murders in the Building” manage to handle both of those goals at the same time. There’s voiceover table-setting, but with an unexpected purpose....

Best friends Lupe (Victoria Moroles) and Sunny (Kuhoo Verma in a star-making comedic turn) both come from strait-laced, “traditional” families — Sunny is convinced the “Indian mafia” are reporting back her every move to her overbearing mom, Lupe’s Mexican-American clan is decidedly church-centric — and are some of the few people of color in an overwhelmingly white small town in the middle of nowhere, South Dakota. They’re both a little bit sex-crazed (hey, turns out that puberty is weird and hormones are very real), with the more experienced Lupe dabbling in a sexting relationship with the mysterious Logan, while the more reserved Sunny is nursing a major crush on local cutie Hunter....

With their first feature “Werewolf,” Canadian director Ashley McKenzie established themself as an empathetic storyteller with an ear for naturalistic dialogue. The film followed two young methadone addicts working to maintain both their relationship and their shared drug habit in Nova Scotia. Much of the film takes place in hospital settings, as the couple says anything they can to get their next fix through the Canadian healthcare system. “Queens of the Qing Dynasty” is their sophomore feature, taking us back into the healthcare system to tell a very different story of a healing transformative friendship....

With both “Raya and the Last Dragon” (Disney) and “Tom & Jerry” (Warner Bros.) grossed over $6 million (a first since March 13 last year, just before theaters closed), the top 10 grossed over $23 million, with the total take over $24 million. That is the same as December 25-27 (normally a massive weekend). This was also the best year-to-year performance since March, with business down “only” 76 percent compared to most weeks closer to 90 percent....

“Rifkin’s Festival” stars Gina Gershon and Wallace Shawn as the American couple who travel to the San Sebastian Film Festival and are pulled in opposite directions. The wife starts an affair with a famous French film director and the husband falls in love with a local Spanish woman. The cast also includes Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, and Christoph Waltz. “Rifkin’s Festival” will mark Allen’s second San Sebastian opener after “Melinda and Melinda” at the 2004 festival, where he was also the recipient of the Donostia Award for career achievement....

Netflix announced Sunday that it has officially renewed the South Korean dystopian blockbuster, one of its most popular shows ever, for a second season. The hit series is the brainchild of Hwang Dong-hyuk, who created and produced the series, in addition to directing all nine episodes. In a statement posted on Twitter, Hwang thanked the show’s fans for continuing to support his vision. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year,” he wrote....

The tally dethroned “Bridgerton” Season 2, which hit 193 million hours over its own premiere weekend. The fourth season of “Stranger Things” set another new premiere-weekend record when it reached number one in 83 countries.
