“A Couple,” which premiered in competition at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival, is a dramatization of the marriage between “War and Peace” author Leo Tolstoy and his wife, Sophia Tolstoy. Sophia takes center stage in Wiseman’s film, which unfolds in a series of monologues based on her letters and diary entries. Nathalie Boutefeu plays Sophia in the film, which seeks to recontextualize the Tolstoys’ marriage and explore the sacrifices that she made to support her husband’s writing career....

It’s a total one-note joke — Tevye the Milkman meets “Encino Man” — and Rogen runs with it as far as he can, while the movie struggles to keep pace. Pitched somewhere between outrageous satire and sincerity, the movie has a tough time finding its priorities, but it’s endearing to watch it try. After all, that’s the same conundrum facing Ben Greenbaum, the modern-day New Yorker tasked with orienting Herschel Greenbaum to 21st century life even as the descendant has a hard time figuring out his own role in it....

The upcoming Disney+ series, originally slated for an August 31 release, confirmed a delayed premiere date to September 21. Diego Luna, as the titular Cassian Andor, dares to steal from the Empire in a tense new trailer with Stellan Skarsgård leading the charge against the regime. Forest Whitaker, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Fiona Shaw also star. Emmy-winning “Succession” composer Nicholas Britell is handling the score. Andor famously served as a Rebel spy and helped deliver Death Star received by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in “A New Hope....

But rather than stop there, DC is also rolling out “Black Adam” in July, starring Dwayne Johnson as the “Shazam!” villain in a film he spent close to a decade developing. “Black Adam” will be followed by “The Flash,” which sees Ezra Miller finally get a standalone film for his “Justice League” character. And finally, newly-minted “Fast and Furious” star Jason Momoa returns as Aquaman this December in the sequel “Aquaman and the Last Kingdom....

“Avatar: The Way of Water” opens in theaters this December, and Cameron has already shot an untitled third movie that is scheduled for 2024. Plus, Cameron is also hard at work on “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5.” With all of that coming down the pike, you might think that Cameron had exhausted all of his ideas for future “Avatar” projects. But you’d be wrong. In a new interview with Total Film, the filmmaker revealed that one of his scrapped ideas for “The Way of Water” has been turned into a new graphic novel, titled “Avatar: The High Ground....

While Cate Shortland’s film is rated PG-13 like the majority of its franchise brethren, “Black Widow” does push the envelope when it comes to its depiction of on-screen violence and fighting sequences in new ways. As Shortland told IndieWire during a recent interview, that level of realistic — at least for an MCU title — violence was always part of her pitch for the film, an element that goes hand in hand with her interest in bringing real truth to a superhero story....

Much like Asaf Kapadia did with his documentary, “Amy,” Dominik critiques the world for reducing his subject down to her topline assets — and then treats her in exactly the same way. His Marilyn is a sexy, breathy blonde with daddy issues. And that’s all, folks. Well, not quite all, as “Blonde” sets out to show a lifetime of victimization and exploitation. The film is Dominik’s finger pointed at everyone who had a hand traumatizing his leading lady, from her mother trying to drown her in the bath aged 7 to her death from an overdose of barbiturates at 36 after being used and abused by the Hollywood machine....

Shortly before the presidential started at 9pm ET on September 29, the fake Kazakhstan Twitter account posted a video prematurely celebrating Trump’s victory over Biden in the event. The video featured the voice of Cohen as Borat and was accompanied by a caption that read: “Congratulations to Donald Trump for winning debate today! Impressive and amazing result for a strong premier who always put America and Kazakhstan first!” Later during the debate, the Twitter account trolled Biden by posting, “Biden WRONG – face masks NOT effective against Covid19!...

The latest trailer for Netflix’s “Enola Holmes 2” shows the titular teen sleuth (Millie Bobby Brown) asking her famous brother, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), for help finding a missing woman. The sequel to the 2020 whodunnit finds Enola once again solving mysteries in 19th-century London while trying to launch her own detective agency. Based on Nancy Springer’s book series, the “Enola Holmes” franchise also stars Helena Bonham Carter, David Thewlis, Louis Partridge, and “Dune” breakout Sharon Duncan-Brewster....

The recent WarnerMedia upfront presentation gave advertisers a glimpse at what was going to happen when our favorite NBC characters reunited, but it was just a taste of the friendship, laughter, and tears that make up this trailer. The entire series cast, comprised of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and Matthew Perry are present and accounted for in the trailer, which can be seen below....

The series is a blend of comedy and music, with a female empowerment theme that’s heightened, yet based in reality. The goal was to get good actors first and fake the singing if they needed to, according to executive producer Tina Fey. She had seen Bareilles in “Waitress” and was struck by her acting, and Bareilles said working on “Waitress” onstage helped her deal with the rigor of a television schedule....

Issa’s depictions of being “Black and Awkward” resonated with audiences who could see themselves in the main character, J. But even with over a million views, a loyal fan base, and a 2012 Short Award for Best Web series and a spot on Forbes 30 under 30, Rae found it difficult to pitch her series to network executives....
