The studio’s estimate might even be low: Disney projects that Sunday will be down 35 percent from Saturday and distributors typically project a 25 to 30 percent drop. Disney’s pessimism has several sources. It has a B+ Cinemascore (lower than all but one MCU film), and a steep 36 percent Saturday drop from the Thursday/Friday combined total....

Will the new film turn out his twelfth Academy Award nomination? He won in 1995 for “The Lion King.” Apparently the scope of “Dune” is big enough to inspire two original Hans Zimmer scores. It was already known that Oscar winner Zimmer was composing the original score for Villeneuve’s “Dune” theatrical release, but now io9 has confirmed that Zimmer has written additional and separate original score music inspired by the making-of “Dune” book that is being published in tandem with the film’s October release....

Hot Streak: Alex Borstein is the third consecutive actress to win back-to-back Emmys for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Before the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star took home trophies in 2018 and 2019, Kate McKinnon won in 2016 and 2017 for “SNL,” and Allison Janney won in 2014 and 2015 for “Mom.” Julie Bowen also won twice for “Modern Family” in 2011 and 2012, making Merritt Wever (“Nurse Jackie”) and Jane Lynch (“Glee”) the only winners not to repeat this decade....

“Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” returns to National Geographic tonight (new episodes will be available for streaming the next day on Disney+) with Season 3, which follows Ramsay as he journeys to various culinary hotspots to learn about different cooking methods and cultures. The latest season of the show follows the celebrity chef as he visits Portugal, Croatia, Mexico, Texas, Maine, Puerto Rico, Iceland, the Smoky Mountains, Michigan, and Finland. Returning viewers will be immediately at home with the structure of “Uncharted” Season 3....

“Greenland” is not the only film to see this kind of long-term success. Universal’s “The Croods: A New Age” moved to PVOD after three weeks in theaters and has thrived ever since. However, that film also benefits from being part of an animated franchise in the content-hungry kids’ market. “Greenland,” which falls neatly into the disaster-movie genre, is that also rare and difficult property: the original screenplay. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown star in the 2022 Sundance breakout comedy “Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul,” written and directed by Adamma Ebo and executive produced by Jordan Peele. The mockumentary premieres in theaters and on Peacock September 2. Amid allegations of misconduct, Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown) tries to revitalize his church after the scandal forced the congregation to temporarily close. Meanwhile, his wife, Trinitie Childs (Hall), is willing to do anything to reclaim her throne as the church’s first lady....

Ava Berkofsky, who joined the series as its director of photography in its second season and directed episodes in Seasons 4 and 5, has always paid special attention to the diffusion techniques, reflective lighting, and sumptuous color contrasts that makes the cast look not just good but fine. As the series has gone on, though, Berkofsky has subtly evolved the series’ style to capture where the characters’ find themselves ending up....
