Finally, the 74rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 12, and air live on NBC at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT.

Looking toward Emmy night in September, the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie will likely determine which show will win Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Murray Bartlett is arguably the nominee least known to the general public, but has long been the favorite to win (“The White Lotus” premiered over a year ago). If anything, co-stars Jake Lacy and Steve Zahn unexpectedly also receiving nominations feeds into an Emmy for Bartlett and for the show, but they do face tough competition with “Dopesick,” the other big competitor in the limited series categories. Michael Stuhlbarg plays a compelling villain, the face of the family deemed responsible for America’s opioid crisis, so should the TV Academy prefer that series overall, he would likely be the spoiler here. Peter Sarsgaard and Will Poulter also play key roles on the harrowing Hulu series, but not significant enough to command votes. Finally, Seth Rogen deserves kudos for being the only limited series actor nominated in a supporting category that wasn’t on “Dopesick” or “The White Lotus,” but the issue with his “Pam & Tommy” role is that it becomes of less and less importance to the narrative as the season goes on. While he is the POV character at the beginning, and also happens to be an executive producer on the project, “Pam & Tommy” really belongs to the titular characters by the end.
